Banana Split Cake

Banana Split Cake

Well it was my birthday the other day so of course I had to make myself a birthday cake!  One of my favorite desserts is a banana split! So I wanted to make a way where I can have those amazing flavors in a cake.  I also wanted to make it super simple so anyone cane make it! I am so happy on the way this cake turned out, its exactly how I hoped it would. Not only does it taste good but it looks so cute, perfect for a birthday!

In this recipe I used Wilton Easy Layer Pan Set but its not necessary to use them.  I liked using them because they are small so I can easily have separate layers of each flavor. If you just want to use a pan you already have, the cake still looks and tastes good when you marble the different flavor batters!

Cake

  •  1 box of Vanilla/White Cake
    • including ingredients listed on cake box
  • 1 Tbsp of Cocoa Powder
  • Handful of Chocolate Chips (optional)
  • 1 Tbsp of Powder from Strawberry Instant Jell-O
  • 1 Tbsp of Powder from Banana Cream Instant Pudding

Chocolate Drizzle

  • 1 cup of Chocolate Chips
  • 4 tsp of Vegetable Shortening

Frosting

  • 2 cans of Whipped Icing
  • Or your favorite whipped icing recipe

Toppings (Optional)

  • Sprinkles
  • Nuts
  • Cherries
  • Other toppings you desire

Following the directions on the box and create cake batter. Optional: I always switch the oil with butter, switch the water with milk, and add a tsp of Vanilla Extract. Once you make your cake batter, divide it into 4 bowls.

Once divided, its time to create your 4 different flavor: vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, and banana.

  • Vanilla- leave bowl as is
  • Chocolate- 1 Tbsp of Cocoa Powder and handful of Chocolate Chips(optional)
  • Strawberry- 1 Tbsp of Powder from Strawberry Instant Jell-O
  • Banana- 1 Tbsp of Powder from Banana Cream Instant Pudding

Put each batter in four of the Wilton Layer pans. Bake for 10 minutes and check. The strawberry was done at 10 minutes, the rest of the layers finished within another 5 minutes.

Note: if you are not using these pans, marble the batter into your desired pan. Follow cooking directions on cake box according to pan.

Once layers are finished baking let them cool.

Stack and/or icing your cake with whipped icing. With extra icing, put in bag with a 1M tip and place in refrigerator

Now it's time to make your chocolate drizzle.  With a double boiler or a homemade boiler with a bowl and a pan. With one cup of Chocolate Chips and 4 tsp of Vegetable Shortening, melt your chocolate until smooth.

With a spoon, drizzle chocolate so it resembles chocolate syrup.

With your bagged icing, make swirls on top of your cake resembling whipped cream. Top it off with sprinkles, nuts, cherries, or any other toppings you desire!
